E-portfolio Reflection

This is a reflection of about 500 words on my experience creating an e-portfolio.

1. What did you benefit from creating the website as an e-portfolio?

As a tutor with several one-on-one students, creating an e-portfolio has been incredibly useful. I can neatly organize all my teaching experiences in one place and compile resources like lesson plans and review notes for my students to use after class. Additionally, it gives me the opportunity to guide my students in building their own e-portfolios, which could benefit them greatly for future school applications or job searches. It’s a practical, task-based activity that also teaches them useful vocabulary and skills related to creating résumés.

2. To what extent did the e-portfolio creation have an impact on your learning experience?

The process had a big impact on my learning, especially by introducing me to the "scaffolding" concept. I learned to plan a website with a clear structure in mind before starting. I really enjoyed sketching out my ideas and then gradually building the site into something that reflects my style. It was a creative and rewarding experience that deepened my understanding of planning and execution.

3. To what extent will you use the ideas of e-portfolio or multimodal composing in your teaching?

I plan to use my e-portfolio as both a cloud-based resource hub and a professional digital résumé. For my current students, it’s a convenient place to find review materials and resources. For prospective students and their parents, it showcases my teaching approach and qualifications, helping them decide if I’m the right tutor for their needs. It’s a versatile tool for my teaching career.

4. What challenges did you encounter in the e-portfolio creation process? (e.g., creating comment box, adjusting fonts and styles, color contrast, etc.)

Honestly, I didn’t encounter significant challenges. Wix was very intuitive, allowing me to easily adjust fonts, layouts, and color schemes to my liking. The templates provided a great starting point, and any small technical issues I faced were simple to resolve. I actually found the process enjoyable from beginning to end.

5. How did you overcome those difficulties during the e-portfolio creation process?

The only slight difficulty was designing unique images—I wanted my site to stand out rather than rely on standard templates. I solved this by using AI tools to generate custom visuals, like the cute penguins featured on my e-portfolio. It took a bit of extra time, but it made the site feel personal and turned the challenge into a fun part of the project.
